CM to Inches — Instant Converter & Height Table
Convert centimetres to inches (or inches to cm) — plus a height converter for feet & inches ↔ cm.
The Formula
The inch is defined as exactly 2.54 centimetres — not an approximation, an international standard since 1959. That makes the conversion exact in both directions:
- CM to inches: divide by 2.54 → inches = cm ÷ 2.54
- Inches to CM: multiply by 2.54 → cm = inches × 2.54
Quick mental shortcut: 1 inch ≈ 2.5 cm. Good enough for rough estimates; use the calculator above for anything going into a lab report or health form.

Where Students Use This
The cm ↔ inches conversion comes up constantly in college. Health and wellness forms at US universities typically ask for height in feet and inches — but international students (and many US students in metric-based science courses) think in centimetres. Lab reports and physics problem sets often mix metric measurements with real-world objects sized in inches. Use the full unit converter if you also need weight, temperature, or volume conversions on the same page.
