What to Do If Your Required Score Is Too High
- Verify the final weight is correct. If your professor has not published the exact weight, confirm it before accepting defeat. Some finals are heavier than the syllabus implies.
- Ask about extra credit. Many professors offer optional extra credit before the final. A few points here can meaningfully change your required score.
- Check for a curve. If the class average is below 70%, a curve may be applied after the final. You can factor this in by using a slightly lower current grade number and recalculating.
